Flying through the air at 115km/h

Exhilarating is probably the best word to describe our experience at Cedar Point on Saturday. Cedar Point has been consistently voted the world's best roller coaster park and is home to the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world! The park has 17 roller coasters in total and a whole bunch of gentler rides too for those whose tickers have cobwebs on them!

Our day started by dropping off Nathan with our good friends Robin and Brian at 11am. He had a absolute blast with them and their two sons, making cakes, going to a playground, playing soccer, football and basketball! Thanks for watching him so we could go and be kids again in Cedar Point! You guys are awesome!!

We got to Cedar Point a half hour after it opened at 12:30pm. I must be honest and say, I was a little intimidated by these metal and wooden structures towering above us as we glanced at Cedar Point's skyline! All rides at the park are given a rating out of five, depending on their thrillingness (I think I just invented a new word). We decided to start off slowly, so we found a ride rated a 4, the Iron Dragon! And what a start that was!!

After our heartbeats returned to below 90 beats per minute, we thought we would try another 4 rated ride, and our first ride on a wooden coaster ever, the Blue Streak. This ride looked rather uneventful, and tame, but heck, I WAS DECEIVED! This wooden coaster threw us around the track at decent speeds, and a few times I panicked, thinking that I was about to be put into an orbit, as the ride dropped unexpectedly in a number of places!

By this time, we had convinced ourselves that we would be able to keep our lunch down, so we started going on the maximum thrill rated coasters, including the Mean Streak, which is a hug wooden coaster that is made up of hundreds of thousands of wooden planks, cleverly arranged in such away to give the rides a thrilling ride lasting 2 min 45 seconds, with speeds of over 100km/h!

Our favorite rides were the Raptor which sends you upside down 6 times, as your legs dangle below, with a full view of the earth or sky, depending on your orientation. The Magnum XL 200 is the ride that broke records when it was erected in 1989, as the tallest and fastest roller coaster in its time. It accelerates you to 115 km/h as you head down one of the steepest descents in the world at a 60 degree angle!

Unfortunately due to time constraints and the fact that we had to wait up to 45 minutes in the line for our rides, we could only ride half of the roller coasters in the park. There were two new rides that we really wanted to ride, but we couldn't justify a 1hr 40 minute wait for the one, and the other was out of order. There was the Top Thrill Dragster there, which is the fastest and tallest ride in the world, that accelerates you from 0 to 200 km/h in 4 seconds and rockets you up an 140m high tower that turns you 90 degrees, and then you free fall back to earth, nose first. I wanted to try it out, but I had no volunteers to join me, and didn't want to stand in a line for an hour for the 30 second ride, without being able to share it with anyone ;-)

Finally, on a sad note, I have to say good bye to a special dear companion of 7 years :-( My digital camera died on me today, the day after it experienced unreal G forces whilst in my pocket on the roller coaster! My Sony served me well, and most of the photos you have seen here included in my blog, were taken by the camera..... Now to find a worthy replacement!
